Welcome!
Mesa Vista Observatory is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. The observatory is located approximately 25 miles east of Santa Fe, near the village of Pecos. Mesa Vista Observatory is a traditional roll-off roof design, with both a telescope room and a warm room under the same roof. The observatory is the second "iteration" of backyard observatories that I've built; the first being in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near Blue Ridge, GA. Although I learned a lot from my experiences in Georgia, that observatory was not blessed with the clear nights, high altitude, low humidity, and exceptionally dark skies of New Mexico. Mesa Vista Observatory is the culmination of a life-long dream to live in a place that I love with a profound sense of history and culture, while having immediate access to the night sky whenever I wish.
I've attempted to consolidate a wide range of general astronomy topics, blogs, astrophotography, articles, observatory construction techniques and links on this website that I hope will provide valuable information to other amateur astronomers.
Clear Skies!
